Limits of Earthly Love
The Limits of Earthly Love
by Martha MacFarland
I do my best to transcend
The limits of Earthly love
Yet in my heart
Pain still resonates
I understand in my mind
That not all are able to receive
To allow or accept
The love I offer
The sting of what I want to label
As rejection takes hold of my heart
I try to fight the ego’s desires
To shut down
To build a fortress
To be bitter
My primitive self says, “Not again!”
By my Higher Self
Says, “It is only the limits of Earthly love”
“You can still love through the pain”
“How do I do this?” my shadow self asks.
“By accepting the illusion of life
You come to realize that
Love is not made perfect
In this physical realm
But you have opened your mind
To awaken to the knowledge
That life is an illusion
An illusion, you dispel for the truth
Of wisdom and love.”
“How do I transcend this pain then
That I still feel in my heart?”
“Breathe...breathe…
Still your mind and
Let the Collective Conscious
Come in and clear the energy
Of the ego
Nourish you
Cherish you
Love you
Accept you
So that you realize you don’t need
Every person’s love
To be whole
You are already whole
And this knowledge will wash over you
And you will realize
The limits of Earthly love”
“Do I still love a person who
Rejects me?”
“Loving people in spirit
Is different than loving them physically
You can heal and release your own pain and
Still love them with your essence
Still bless them from afar
Because you understand now
The truth of wisdom and love
That transcend this physical realm
For knowledge is made perfect
When you accept this contrast,
And you still love through the pain”
