Letting Go of Resistance

Letting Go of Resistance

By Martha MacFarland

Resistance occurs when we face

The traumas of life

Whether self-inflicted sabotage

Or overt aggression from others

Or the loss and grief of loved ones

Or significant changes that turned us upside down

In opposition to our natural flow of life

And in these moments of resistance

We feel the emotions that lead to learning

For out of betrayal

For out of trauma

For out of loss

Comes compassion, wisdom, and empathy

If we are open to growth that follows

A hardship

And in the moment of the event happening to us

We hope that later we will realize that

In time, the pain we encountered will yield

To expansion

To openness

So when the healing is underway

And we go within to see

How to soothe the uncomfortableness within us

And communicate to all parts of the self

We let go of a little resistance bit by bit

And bring in love and compassion for the self

The self that felt the trauma

The rejection

The unworthiness

The loss

And while within our heart

The soul brings a broader perspective

To the ego

To trust that our future self

Knows that all things worked out in the end

And spiritual growth led to expansion

So in this trust and faith

We find we can let go of the resistance bit by bit

Through forgiveness

Through centering of the heart

Through focusing on our core values

Realizing the blessings that still abound

Around us

And in the quiet recesses of our heart

Our soul whispers the wisdom we need

To trust our emotions and our intuition

That our soul has chosen a path

For our highest good and learning
